Grills

There are few methods of outdoor cooking that offer as much fun and flavor as grilling. Grills come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and fuel types to serve numerous purposes and add different flavors to the food they cook. When shopping for a new grill, there are six main types of grills you’ll encounter:

  • Built in grills are a style of grill that is installed in a premade platform or enclosure to be a permanent installation in a backyard or on a patio. These fixtures are nice additions for the high-end finished appearance they give an area, and are popular options for large outdoor entertaining spaces. Most built in grills use propane or natural gas, frequently using a permanently installed gas line that connects to a home’s utility lines.
  • Charcoal grills are usually freestanding and portable, and are the grilling option most often found at tailgates or campsites. They are easy to fuel, using charcoal that can be bought at nearly any grocery store, and although the coals do take a bit to set up and heat properly, this type of grill is simple to use. Many people also appreciate charcoal grilling for the slightly smoky flavor that the charcoal briquettes impart on food cooked over them.
  • Gas grills typically run on propane or natural gas, and are frequently larger than most charcoal grills, even integrating side stove burners on some models, making them almost an outdoor kitchen. Some people don’t care for gas grills, as they don’t add as much flavor as you would get with a charcoal grill, however, their quick push-button start and lack of any set-up make them a great option for most grillers.
  • Kamado grills are a grill type that comes from traditional Japanese methods of cooking. These grills typically consist of a large egg-shaped ceramic enclosure that opens vertically on a hinge and features a grilling rack over top of a space for charcoal. Kamado grills are unique among other grill types in that they can reach temperatures in excess of 700 degrees Fahrenheit (that’s nearly 400 degrees Celsius) due to the heat retaining properties of their ceramic construction.
  • Electric grills are frequently small countertop appliances that can be used indoors in a kitchen. These plug into a standard outlet, and are great for those who enjoy the flavor of grilled food, but may not have outdoor space to put a larger grill.
  • Pellet grills are a newer grill option that is growing in popularity. They offer a combination of some of the best aspects of gas, charcoal, and electric grills put together. Pellet grills start easily with the push of a button, have an electric powered auger that feeds their flames, and feature a more smoky flavor that comes from their natural wood pellets.

In addition to our array of grill types, ATGStores.com also offers a selection of smokers. Although smokers are not technically grills, they do serve a similar purpose of offering a delicious method of outdoor cooking. Smokers, however, use flavored smoke instead of heat in order to cure meat and vegetables. But whether you are looking to cook your food with any of our grills or a smoker, you are sure to find a range of great outdoor cooking options that will suit your space.
