Today is Earth Day, which means the keenest observers are probably outside enjoying nature instead of reading blogs, but for those of you who may be browsing we thought we’d offer up some ideas on what you can do if you don’t have any plans yet.
And, there is so much for you to do! Look up events in your area on the Earth Day Network, and check out our list below of some cools things that are happening right now – all you have to do is go!
Earth Day Volunteers
Lots of people like to volunteer on Earth Day and pitch in to help make the planet a better place. But, what should you do, and where should you go? Volunteer Match has you covered!
The website currently lists 272 Earth Day volunteer opportunities, which can be filtered by your preferred cause (animal, environment, community, etc.) and even features event ratings from other volunteers.
Earth Day Tree Planting
Don’t fret if you’re short on yard space for you own planting – there are plenty of places you can go to plant a tree for Earth Day!
Contact your local garden store if you’d like to get more information. More often than not, they’re the ones supplying the saplings for your area tree-planting events.
Recycling, Composting & Energy Savings
If you don’t already, Earth Day is the perfect day to start tidying up for spring (even if it might be a little late). There are lots of ways to help the Earth that end up helping you and your pocketbook, too.
Recycling is easy enough, and is probably part of your municipal waste service. Composting takes a little more effort, but is worth it if you’ve got a yard and like to garden. Where everyone can save with barely lifting a finger, though, is by replacing their conventional bulbs with LED lighting.
LED bulb prices are dropping while the technology continues to improve, which makes them a better value every day. And, the sooner you invest, the sooner you can start saving.
Have a happy Earth Day everyone!
