Arrange Your Living Room for the Holidays

When people arrange their living room furniture sets, they often organize them in very precise ways, but busy schedules, constant picking up and rearranging on the fly tend to change things.

Undoubtedly, living rooms are the most common victims of the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Look at your living room right now – how much functional movement do you have in there? When you’re hosting extended family, hopefully the answer is “a lot.” You’re going to have a nightmare on your hands if your furniture doesn't allow for easy movement; it’s a very short trip between an easily navigable space and a minefield.

More clutter and less space means more spills, more accidents and more chaos as people gather. Do yourself a favor by arranging your living room furniture sets more efficiently. Consider these two basic furniture layout plans:

Create Zones

People with larger living rooms are lucky because they have the benefit of more space in which to arrange and create seating zones. If you are so fortunate, you can move furniture around to create clutches of parlor-style seating that will allow for easier movement and encourage more socializing.

For example, two recliners, a loveseat, and the TV can form one zone, while a sofa, two chairs and a coffee table can form another. This way, you can create multiple areas where different conversations and activities can occur without centralizing the action.

Line the Walls

Another option is to move your furniture out away from the center and toward the walls to create easy movement from one side of the room to the other. Instead of zones, this opens up the floor for people to come together without necessarily sitting down.

This is a great strategy for both large and small living rooms and can be helped further with folding chairs and tables if you have enough room in the middle once you move the bulkier furniture to the perimeter.

Hopefully, this gives you some ideas about how to manage your space before your guests arrive for the holidays. Good luck!
