9 (Super) Inexpensive Landscape Upgrades

landscape lights, landscape edging, post lights, bird houses

Landscaping is expensive and often a challenge, which means a lot of dreams end up dying on the proverbial wisteria vine, but there are plenty of yard projects that are cheap, easy and even fun to try.

You won’t find anything you have to build or really even plan on this list of landscaping ideas. They’re the kind of yard accents anyone with a few square feet of lawn can enjoy. Let’s start with letting Mother Nature do the work for you:

1. Put a bird (house) on it.

All you have to do is hang a bird house in a tree and let the rest of the decorations fly in when they’re ready. A bird feeder also works well, and is just as easy to “install.”

2. Acquire a rock.

Get a really big, pretty rock and put it somewhere. That is all.

3. Plant some solar post lights.

Solar landscape lights are an easy addition. Just stick them in the ground where you want them and let the sun do the rest.

4. Mulch a bush or a tree.

Remove the layer of topsoil around a tree trunk and sprinkle some wood chips around it for instant class.

5. Hang some string lights.

Now, you may have to run an extension cord to get the look you want, but that shouldn’t be too hard. Or, you can use battery-powered or even solar string lights for even more flexibility.

6. Enlist a garden gnome.

Well, it doesn’t have to be a gnome. They may be royalty among garden statues, but the court is alive with interesting creatures and objet d’art of all kinds.

7. Edge something.

This is super easy if you have a landscape spade, but even a regular shovel will work. And, it makes things look so nice! Now, what to do with that turf …

8. Pot some plants.

Use that good dirt to make your potting soil go even further, and then create a potted-plant installation.

9. Mow.

It does require a lawnmower, and it’s definitely not easy, but not everything can be as fun as a dwarf kingdom – gnome what I mean?

Have fun with these quick, fun and (mostly) easy landscaping upgrades, and save your money for the luau that comes later!

This top-rated wren house by WoodLink comes in at under $20 and brings all the birds to the yard … but especially wrens.

Design Toscano named him Sammy, but you can call him whatever you want.
