5 Ways to Freshen Your Furniture Style Fast

Buying new furniture is super fun, but it’s not always as inexpensive or as easy as making quick style updates to the furniture you already have.

Of course, “easy” is a relative concept and not all of us are DIY champions, so what are a few things you can do to spruce up your furniture without spending your entire tax refund check?

Here are six ways to freshen your furniture style fast:

1. Sheets, Throws & Slipcovers

A sheet may not sound like the sexiest way to style your sofa, but it all depends on the sheet. And, there are lots and lots of patterns when it comes to sheets – perhaps even more so than with throws and slipcovers.

Blankets, throws and slipcovers are probably going to be a safer bet, but safe isn’t always the surest path to unique style. Think about how you can use thrift-store linens to make a lovely furniture upgrade.

2. Doilies

Before you recoil in horror, consider the fact that doilies don’t necessarily have to look like ... doilies. There’s just no other name for a piece of decorative cloth you can add to a piece of furniture.

And, that piece of decorative cloth can be anything; any color or shape you want, and made from any kind of material you like. Get creative and see what happens!

3. Pillows

It’s an oldie and a goodie, but there’s not too much new to say about it. Decorative pillows can add a little punch to otherwise flat furniture and are a good option when you need a quick fix.

4. Extra Fluff

Furniture cushions can and will lose their fluff over time, but it’s easy enough to fluff them up again with a little extra batting. You can find batting of all kinds at hobby stores, and just a little can make a big difference in your crushed cushions.

5. Feet & Legs

Yep, you can absolutely add new feet and legs to your furniture. It’s easy to do and won’t cost you and arm and a … ah … well, it doesn’t cost much.

You’ll often find that you have to stain these new appendages before you attach them (when they’re made of wood, anyway), but that’s usually a good thing. It’ll give you a chance to further enhance your furniture style, and maybe even match it to the décor you already have.

6. Paint

Admittedly, this isn't always fast and easy, especially if you're invested in an antique and your goal is more along the lines of restoration, but if you're just trying to freshen up an old yard sale find then a quick coat of paint is an easy way to go.

You can touch it up with a little dab here and there, or grab a can of something loud and create a really eye-catching piece.

Good luck using these quick DIY tips to freshen up your furniture fast!
