The important (although admittedly somewhat boring) benefits that ceiling fans add to a home have been detailed elsewhere in this blog
as well as by many others, and are summed up thusly – they help keep homes comfy and are cheaper to run than HVAC units. And that’s all well and good, but the detail left out of that equation is how cool some of them look! “Normal” ceiling fans are so common it makes it easy to forget that many models amount to functional works of art. So, let’s take a look at a few …1. Steampunk FanMatthews Fan Company
doesn’t refer to this fan as “steampunk,” despite the obvious fit. The design is meant as a tribute to the molecular structure of water – two hydrogen atoms linked to an oxygen atom – but that’s just a bunch of fancy design talk. What makes it cool is its awesome style and versatility when compared to the average fan.
2. Flower Fan
The “Bloom” speaks for itself without much need for elaboration. It has 10 blades – or petals, if you prefer – and a dimpled light fixture that resembles a flower’s center. Craftmade
calls it a fan fit for a child’s bedroom or playroom, but there's no reason why adults can't enjoy crazy flower-shaped fans, too.
3. Tiffany Fan
One part fan and one part chandelier, Meyda’s
take on luxury ceiling fans is quite a stunner. The custom-made fixture is crafted in Yorkville, New York, and each piece is a unique masterwork. No two fans are alike, so even if you did meet someone who had one (which is highly unlikely) you can rest assured it won't look like yours.
4. Wing Fan
It seems it would have occurred to fan makers to model a fan after a plane propeller long ago, and maybe they did, but Minka Aire
perfected the design. This fan won the Chicago Athenaeum’s 2010 Good Design Award and rightfully so. The design is deceptively simple while remaining functional and elegant.
5. Single-Bladed Fan
You can say you saw it here first – a one-bladed fan. Fanimation’s
aptly named “Enigma” is so efficient it has earned an ENERGY STAR rating, which has to be embarrassing for all the other fans out there. It does with one blade they can’t do with four or five, leaving one to wonder why all fans aren’t one-bladed …
Now, these fans are pretty awesome, but what’s even better is that many of them can be installed with very little effort if you follow the instructions in our how-to video, which you can view at top right.ATGStores.com
hopes you've enjoyed the, ah – fanfare – and wish you luck installing the fan of your dreams.
