25 Awesome Things to Do on Memorial Day

If you’re lucky, you’ve got Memorial Day off of work – and maybe even a three-day weekend – but what are you going to do with it?

Here are 25 ideas, in case you’re looking for something to do and just can’t decide.

1. Stay in bed: Stop reading this list now and go back to sleep, because this really is the best idea on it.

2. Go on a picnic: Wine and cheese in the park on a sunny day? It’s hard to beat.

3. Watch a parade: There’s something truly American about a beribboned high school debutante riding in the back of a Corvette from the local Chevy dealership.

4. Mow the yard: This is a terrible idea, but maybe you need mow-tivation. Get it? You know, because you’re mowing the … ah, never mind. Don’t mow. Bad idea! Boo!

5. Take a bike ride: You ever notice how you actually see things when you ride a bike rather than drive? It’s nice. Memorial Day is a good day for taking it slow.

6. Learn a new recipe: You have all day. Pick a recipe, go get the ingredients and make something new.

7. Call a war vet: It’s true that Memorial Day is reserved for honoring our fallen, but chances are good the vets in your life have lost someone, and they could use your support.

8. Fly a kite: How long has it been since you’ve flown a kite? The great thing is that you can count on still knowing how to do it.

9. Go for ice cream: You’re all about the mint chocolate chip. Get two scoops. No, make it three scoops.

10. Fix the : You’ve been meaning to do it ever since the weather started to warm up. Maybe now is the time; or, maybe not. There’s always ice cream.

11. Get on a boat: If you have the means, this is obviously what you should be doing.

12. Call your mom: Do this in addition to whatever else you may be doing. And, do it first.

13. Go on a hike: But, pick somewhere remote, because a lot of people are doing this and the whole idea is to escape them.

14. Throw a ball: Grab your kid or a friend and go throw the ball around; or, maybe a Frisbee.

15. Go to a movie: Maybe the weather is bad where you live. It’s okay. There’s always the Cineplex. And popcorn.

16. Play with your pet: Take the dog for a nice, long walk. Give the cat a bath. You know – fun stuff.

17. Visit a friend: Go for the ol’ surprise pop-in. You know they love it.

18. Play a game: Kickball is the sport of kings on Memorial Day, but anything will do.

19: Get some exercise: Keep it fun. You’re on vacation!

20. Go to the spa: Steam out the toxins and then jump in the splash pool. Zing!

21. Take in a show: “All the world’s a stage, and we but merely players.” Shakespeare said … something like that.

22. Go fishing: Failure never feels better than when you spend all day lounging around with a cool beverage and friendly banter with not a single fish in sight.

23. Do some gardening: Grow something wonderful. You’ll be happy you did.

24. Lay in a hammock: This ranks right behind getting on a boat. If you can fit both activities into the same Memorial Day, you just won at life.

25. Hug somebody: Boom. Someone’s Memorial Day just got a whole lot better – unless it was your anthropophobic neighbor. Don’t hug that guy. Just wave.

Whatever you end up doing, we hope you enjoy your Memorial Day!
