Cable lighting systems are a beautiful type of lighting that can bring a lot of light and a modern minimalist look to any space. However, to create this lighting fixture, there are a few different parts and accessories that are needed to suspend your cable lighting track across a room. Cable lighting hardware mainly consists of three different types of components: Power feeds, cables, and anchors.

Cables – Cables are the single defining element of any cable light system. They carry the electricity, provide structure, and are part of the modern style of any cable system. These are strong, yet versatile, generally made as 10 gauge copper cables that are encased in another material such as Kevlar for reinforcement.

Power feeds – A power feed is the part of a cable lighting fixture that channels feeds electrical current to the heads and pendants that are mounted. This is usually located at one end of a cable in the form of a set of turnbuckles, which both hold the cable and provide power to it.

Anchors – Cable lighting anchors are the pieces that firmly secure the cable to any walls other than the one that provides power. A simple cable system that just stretches from one of the walls to another will only require one set of anchors, but a more complex cable pattern may call for many more. Always thoroughly plan out your lighting layout before beginning any work on it so that you know exactly what parts you’ll need where.

While all these hardware elements may seem a bit complex when separated out, a complete cable lighting system is beautiful in its simplicity; the finished product will feature a turnbuckle at one end, anchors at the other, and a cable stretching between them that holds any lamps and pendants that are part of the system.
