Although they are categorized as a different kind of lighting, halogen light bulbs are actually a variation of incandescent bulbs. However, instead of the usual wire filament in a bulb of inert gas, halogens feature a tungsten filament and halogen gas. This minor alteration to the conventional incandescent allows halogens to burn hotter and stronger, producing exceptionally bright light. When it comes to the hue of light produces, generally these emit a bright white or slightly blue or violet tinted light, which is closer to natural daylight than most incandescents.

Aside from the type of light that they create, there are actually numerous other benefits that halogen bulbs can offer. For one, they produce even and consistent light that won’t cause eye strain, and unlike most LED bulbs, halogens are easily compatible with dimmer switches for easy adjustability They are also more energy efficient than conventional incandescents, and are incredibly durable, with an estimated lifespan of up to 3,500 hours. Both of these features equate to long term savings in terms of operating and replacement costs.

Like traditional bulbs, halogens are also available in a variety of different sizes, including ones compatible with regular 60W fixtures. However, there are also a wide range of options that feature different connectors on the base for use with specific types of fixtures; these include bi-pin type bases, as well as G9, GU10, GU24 bases, and many more.
