So I love this light fixture. But be prepared for a potentially long install. It took me 6 hours to install it with three main issues: 1) poor instructions 2) possible missing parts 3) odd screw placement. Let me explain...
1) Instructions: The instructions are all on one sheet of very thin newsprint. The instruction sheet comes crumbled around some parts in one of the three (?) unlabelled parts bags. Because it is crumbled and on newsprint, some of the text may be worn off. There is a diagram that takes up about 1/4 of the page that shows how to fit the parts together for either a semi flush or pendant mount. There are not step-by-step instructions with a diagram next to each part, you need to figure it out based on this small diagram.
2) Possible missing parts: The parts come in multiple bags, which seem to correspond to whether you are installing as semi-flush or pendant. The parts are not labelled, and there is no corresponding parts diagram that tells you how many of each part you should have, and the name of each part (so you can match it up to that diagram). My set had a possible missing part...the diagram told me to install lock nuts. Apparently locknuts can be the small locknuts i am familiar with that have a threaded rubber-lined hole at one end (there were none of those in the bags) or they can be a larger washer-like piece (there was one of those in the bags). I needed two locknuts, and even this one locknut that was included wasnt the right size. Of course the locknut on the small diagram is the size of a speck, so i couldnt tell what locknuts i was supposed to have in my bags...but regardless i did not have two of anything that resembled locknuts.
3) Poor screw placement: Semi-pendant light fixtures come with a mounting strap with assorted holes in it, and you need to attach two screws upwards into the outlet box, and then two screws go down into the fixture. I have installed two light fixtures in my life ( both the same style), and in these, the two screws that went up into the outlet box were spaced 3 1/2 inches apart (lining up with the mounting strap holes) and the two screws that went down were spaced 3 inches apart (again lining up with the mounting strap holes). In this fixture, the holes into it are spaced 3 1/2 inches apart, and i could not figure out for the life of me how i could put two screws up into the outlet box at that distance, and two screws through the same mounting strap holes down into the fixture. It took me hours to findangle something, and its still a bit jiggly. If someone knows where i went wrong, I''d love to find out.
So in summary, the company cut costs a bit too far and really should include good quality instructions including a parts diagram and the number of each part you should have. If you have read my comments and know how you would handle these issues that cropped up, then go for it. You will love this fixture. I installed it with a dimmer and LED bulbs. Beautiful.
How would you rank the quality of instructions and ease of installation/set-up?
