This eco-friendly doormat made from sustainable raw materials is durable, water proof and anti-skid. It is made from coconut fiber, also called coir, which is spun and woven into mats, then backed by a base of natural rubber to make it anti-skid. Coir fiber cell structure is narrow and hollow, with thick cellulose walls. Mature coir fibers contain more lignin, a complex woody chemical, and less cellulose than fibers such as flax or cotton. This makes coir stronger, more durable, and relatively waterproof. The natural rubber backing is made from white latex which flows in the inner bark of the rubber tree. The latex is tapped by making a series of cuts into the bark. Natural rubber is a renewable resource and is important because of its unique qualities not found in synthetic rubber.
