Have a floor lamp behind the couch which made it difficult to reach the switch under the shade. This purchase works perfectly!! I placed the controls on the bench/table beside the couch and now it make the lamp accessible and serving it''s purpose...

Easy-to-use dimmer cord for incandescent lamps
By Michael from Downingtown, PA 19335, USA on Jan 06, 2016
This is a well made easy-to-use dimmer cord for indoor use intended for incandescent and halogen lighting only (should not be used with CFL or LED lighting). This company, Lutron, offers a different but similar-looking dimmer cord that Lowe''s also sells which will work with all types of lighting (including CFL and LED), but it costs more.
I have been using these cords mainly to adjust the lighting intensity of indoor holiday decorations, for which it works well, but I also have used them to set lighting levels on table lamps. Note that this is not an extension cord; the long cord, approx. 6-feet in length, is only to allow convenient placement of the dimmer slide switch, which is at the end of the cord. You plug the cord into an outlet, and then plug your lamp into the female socket on the back of the dimmer plug (piggy-back style). The slide switch is used to adjust the voltage going to the lamp, and also acts as an on-off switch. I usually just set the slide to the lighting intensity I want and leave it there, and use the lamp''s own switch, if it has one, to turn the lamp on or off. Note that the dimmer, even when set to full on, slightly lowers the highest voltage going to the lamp; I measured 109 volts going to the lamp while the voltage at my outlet measures 122 volts.
There is a red LED on the slider switch which glows whenever a lamp is plugged into the dimmer, apparently to make the dimmer switch easier to locate; the intensity of the red LED does not change with the slide switch setting. The slider switch housing is also provided with two rubber strips on the backside, to prevent slipping when placed on a smooth surface, such as a lamp table. The company Lutron is located in the USA, but the dimmer cord label on my unit says "assembled in St. Kitts", which is in the Caribbean.

Much better than a switch
By Steven from Stafford, VA, USA on Jan 03, 2016
I needed to re-wire a European lamp. New socket, cord, and a switch. I have not been satisfied with the switch that you use on the cord so I wanted to try something different. Costs more but works great.
