Thurman Munson Retired Number Monument Park Brick Slice 14x18 Framed Collage with Nameplate
Thurman Munson was a warrior. Throughout his 11-year career, all with the Yankees, Munson was the heart and soul of the Bronx Bombers. Named team Captain in 1976, Munson, a catcher, had the respect of his teammates and opponents alike. Named Rookie of the Year in 1970, Munson was a 7-time All-Star and 2-time World Series Champion, leading the Yankees to titles in 1977 and 1978.
On August 2, 1979 Munson was killed at the age of 32 years-old. An aspiring pilot, Muson was practicing takeoffs and landings on an off-day in Akron, OH when his plane clipped a tree and crashed. Munson didn't survive. In tribute, his Yankees locker remained unused through 2008, the closing of the original Yankee Stadium. In 2009, the locker was physically moved across the street to the club's new home. Munson's "15" is retired by the Yankees.
This is fantastic opportunity to take home a piece of history with this collage which features a graphical reproduction of the retired 15 number in Monument Park, a slice of game used brick from Monument Park, and a nameplate. This is a truly unique piece from the most historic venue in all of sports. A Steiner Sports certificate of authenticity and an MLB hologram of authenticity are included with this piece.
