A towel warmer is a luxurious addition that can elegantly complement any home bathroom and add a warm touch to any chilly morning. There are two main options in terms of towel warmer heating options: Electric and Hydronic. Electric options utilize internal heating elements to warm things up, and can either be hardwired into your home, or plugged into a standard outlet. A hydronic towel warmer is typically constructed of pipes through which it circulates hot water to warm towels. This type of heated towel rack will typically need to be connected to your home’s plumbing to have quick and easy access to piping hot water straight from your home’s water heater. It should be noted that both of these types will require a few minutes to heat up when first switched on, but hydronic models generally warm up a little faster because they are using already heated water from your home.

When it comes to installation, there are also two options to choose from: free standing and wall mounted. These are exactly what they sound like – a portable option that can be placed on the floor, and a permanently mounted option that is installed on your bathroom wall. Each of these has its own advantages, and when choosing which might be right for your space, you should consider how much room you have and whether you want to be able to move your towel warmer. Also, nearly all hydronic towel warmers need to be permanently installed for plumbing connections, so if you particularly want a hydronic model, that may decide your installation type for you.

Many people have safety concerns when installing a heating element in their bathroom. And although you should always use caution around hot objects and certainly not allow any children or pets to play with your towel warmer, these appliances are built with safety in mind. They usually feature a maximum temperature that plateaus around 100⁰ to 140⁰ which is not hot enough to burn with brief contact. Additionally, some towel warmers integrate timers which can automatically switch them on or off at a specific time, so you can have full control over when the towel rack would be heated.
