There’s light, and then there’s the art of lighting. Marset USA takes light seriously, unveiling its nuances and transforming its effects into atmospheres suffused with wit and character. This captivating collection creates a comforting environment and enhances quality of life with clean, contemporary lighting designs that engage the senses.
A family foundry established in Barcelona more than 70 years ago, Marset USA is continuously evolving as a collective of international designers, and its cutting-edge ideas are enlivened by the technical precision and flawless construction that stems from decades of experience. Distilled to its essence, Marset USA lighting exudes authenticity, meaningful simplicity, innovation and quality craftsmanship.
Collaboration is a key element in Marset USA’s approach. In 1996, Barcelona-based designer Joan Gaspar began directing the company’s product lines. He reinvented the classic industrial light in 2006, with Atila. Like the infamous warrior, this legendary light is encased in die-cast metal, resulting in a fluid, articulate fixture that efficiently directs light where it’s needed most. Tactile meets high-tech in Mercer, by Gaspar and Javier M. Borrás. A ribbon-wrapped shade floating within clear hand-blown glass, Mercer fuses fashion and futurism. This sculptural sensation is offered in two variations: the first, a natural cotton color that produces direct and diffused light; and the second, a sophisticated black-ribboned shade that directs light through the top and bottom. Available for ceiling, suspension, wall and table, Mercer lends a sleek, sensuous vibe to sophisticated décor.
Delight in shape defines the entire Marset USA collection. Its 1970s-inspired Discocó pendant unites whimsy and mystery in layers of lacquered discs. The discs create a scintillating semi-sphere that reflects and redirects light from a central core. First sketched by designer Christophe Mathieu in 1997, he revisited his idea several times before discovering the best manufacturing solution. Launched with white discs in 2008, the Discocó family now includes additional sizes and new colors, including turquoise, chocolate and sand.
Designer Mathias Hahn found inspiration in a term once used to define the size to which a piece of wood or stone was measured. Scantling reveals Hahn’s passion for dual expression by telling a story and providing a solution. Simple geometric shapes, rendered in wood and metal, create an archetypal yet homey effect, balancing technical precision with a play of light.
