Blooms, leaves, rocks, breezes, butterflies – LZF transforms inspiration from the natural world into lighting objects that capture the imagination. Founded in 1994 by Marivi Calvot and Sandro Tothill, LZF was original known as Luzifer, and its earliest designs translated wood veneer into vistas of ambiance, undulating with warmth and shaping light through each organic turn.
LZF first emerged with a passion for design, a commitment to handmade craftsmanship with a niche focus. The first studio was an extra room at home, followed by a garage, a basement workshop and an old enameling plant. Along the way, it received two Good Design awards, two Design Plus awards and a Red Dot Design Award. LZF is now based in a converted winery in Valencia, Spain, where it retains its independent spirit and furthers its creative aesthetic.
Through collaborations with freelance designers, LZF has established a creative family whose collective vision is characterized by rhythmic forms and unexpected twists of light and shade. The work of Spanish designer Luis Eslava, embodies this union of light of nature. One of his most noteworthy designs is Agatha, a pendant lamp that resembles a flower. An ingenious construction of concentrical, superpositioned materials, it can be displayed as a semi-sphere or bloom into a full sphere.
Tri-dimensionality also distinguishes lighting by Irish designer Ray Power. He fashioned Air from the recycled plastic Polywood®, rendering an eco-friendly material into forms that suggest highlight the poetry and adaptability of nature. Available for table and wall, Air projects light in a unique manner while appearing to both merge with and to arise from the surface on which it rests. It won a Good Design award and a Red Dot Design Award.
Saturnia, by Basque-Swiss designer Oscar Cerezo, takes its cues from a universe of inspiration. Its soft, clean lines are reminiscent of the planet Saturn, with an ambient wood veneer wrapped around a plexiglass diffuser, and it offers endless versatility. It provides a dramatic, decorative element, yet it’s also a good, functional working light. It’s available in three sizes, which are equally well-suited to solo display or clustered effects.
LZF offers a fresh and unique selection of product fit for residential, commercial and hospitality spaces. Lighting Universe offers the complete LZF Collection.
