Closet brackets are one of the most essential pieces of closet hardware, supporting the closet rods that most people use to store their hanging clothes. Whether you are completing new construction or updating a current arrangement, new brackets can transform a closet and make it a more functional space. When picking the hardware for your closet, there are a few types of brackets to choose from, with the most common being end rod supports, oval center supports, and multipurpose brackets:

• End rod supports mount on the walls at either end of where you would want to place the rod, holding up each end. For this type of bracket, it is important to have a precisely cut dowel to match the placement of the mounting hardware without being too long or short to fit the brackets.

• Oval center supports are a bracket that can support the center of a long closet rod. These are important additions that can complement end rod supports to reinforce parts of the rod that might otherwise be strained by a broad span.

• Multipurpose closet rod brackets feature a flat support that can hold a shelf over the top of the hanging rod. This type of bracket is a great choice because it adds potential for more storage space without any real changes to the layout of a closet.

When it comes to installation, any of these styles of closet brackets are actually very simple to mount. Usually you will only require a level, screws, a stud finder, a drill, and a measuring tape. A measuring tape is particularly important to help you place the brackets at consistent heights on the wall and measure out even placement of the brackets lengthwise. Once you have all the placements determined, you can easily attach the brackets to the wall. Then, you simply add the closet rod, and you have successfully added versatile hanging space to your closet.
