This Michael Healy Victorian Urn Door Knocker comes in a brass finish.
The Brass Victorian Urn Door Knocker was designed by Michael Healy, an accomplished Rhode Island artisan. One of the most popular of door knocker designs, the elegant Victorian Urn has graced the entrances of countless homes and estates. The Victorian Urn has been created with a stylish flourish at the top and base of the Door Knocker. This design extends throughout the entire piece. This traditional design with an updated twist will be a welcome enhancement to the entrance of any home.
Design of the knocker is excellent but the designed mechanics of installion are poor. First the casting of the back of the knocker is an arc, not flat. Since the knocker is going on a flat door, the top, bottom or both must stick out from the door to catch rain, dirt, leaves, etc. This also allow the threaded part of the screw to show. Second the instructions call for a hole to be drilled through the door to screw into the back of the knocker. The back mounting hole is drilled and tapped off center so if you center the hole on your door, the knocker will be off center. The second mounting screw is installed through the front bottom of the knocker. If you were unlucky enough to have marked and drilled the two holes assuming the holes were aligned vertically, you will have to drill a second mounting hole on the bottom to make it vertical. The knocker also had a few dark spots under the finished coating which cannot be removed without removing the finish. The knocker is made in India which probably explains a lot of the problems but since the price is twice what most competeting designs were and a known artist the designer, one would think the manufacturing process would have been overseen to insure overall quality.
