Requires basic carpentry skills. Installed unit on a porch screen/storm door where no other solid door was present (another door would leave no room for the arm). 1000 times better than conventional piston-type storm door closers. No slamming or banging, just smooth motion and quiet positive latching.
Too many different types, no clear standard between many of those we looked at online. Difficult to compare. Went with this brand and model due to price, shipping, and it did what we needed. I would recommend anyone to come to this site and see what they have to fill their needs.
I bought this door closer to use on the security door to my garage. Garage doors always need a door closer. I'm constantly going in and out with things in my hands. This closer is just just what I needed. I like very much that it has separate adjustments for the sweep and latch speeds. FYI, the color Duro is black.
The instructions were lacking (4 stars instead of 5), but since I had already installed other door closers in my home, I was able to make sense of it. However, I think someone installing a door closer for the first time may struggle with the instructions. Otherwise, the product is of good quality and has an installation option for almost any application. For the price, this is one the best values in a door closer that I have found. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
This unit is very heavily built and looks like it will last trouble free for a very long time. I especially like the fact the speed of door closing and the speed of latching are separately controlled. This separation of functions allows the user to fine tune the door closing action precisely to taste.
The directions for installation were correct but somewhat difficult to follow. I scratched my head for a long time thinking how it ought to be properly positioned. I would recommend that any purchaser hold the unit up to the door in the position they think to be right and have someone open and close the door to make sure it is right before drilling. Also, it's important to understand that there needs to be pre-tensioning of the closer arm in the door closed position. Though the instructions do explain this, it's not emphasized.
I"ve had the closer in operation for a week now and am completely satisfied with it. Sometimes I go open the door just for the fun of seeing it close by itself.
