How to Make Choosing an Ottoman Easy
An ottoman, or foot stool, is one of the most versatile furniture pieces used today. They range from functional to artistic and come in many different styles.
Ottomans come in so many styles and with so many features that you can find one to suit almost any need. Storage ottomans can hide children’s toys or extra throws while bench ottomans can serve as extra seating during an event. Many ottomans are multi-functional and can serve as a footstool or table. Even upholstered ottomans can be turned into an extra serving area with the addition of a tray.
Since ottomans are smaller pieces of furniture, they can be a great way to add some extra color or pattern to a room without going over the top. Ottomans also come in a range of shapes, such as rectangle, round or wedge to dress up your room.
Select a Size
Versatile ottomans also come in a variety of heights and sizes. This may make them easier to find than a coffee table if you are looking for a specific size and you can get an ottoman that serves multiple functions.
The height you choose will depend on how you plan to use the ottoman. If you are using an ottoman as a foot rest, the top of the ottoman should be about the same height as the seat of your chair if that is comfortable for you. Ottomans that will primarily be used as a coffee table may need to be slightly higher.
Many ottomans are upholstered in fabric, but they are also available in leather, vinyl or not upholstered. When selecting a material, think of how and where the ottoman will be used. An ottoman that will double as a coffee table should probably be covered in vinyl so spills can easily be cleaned up. An ottoman that functions as a footrest in a bedroom could be fabric covered to add some softness.
