Does my door bell require a transformer?
You will only need a transformer if you are using a wired door bell. If you have a wired door bell already installed in your home, you probably already have a transformer. Check the product information section of the model you are looking at to see if that particular model requires a transformer.
How does a wireless door bell work?
Wireless door bells use a radio signal, transmitted by the door bell button when a visitor pushes it. A receiver picks up the signal, which triggers the chime. Many wireless door bells have variable frequencies to reduce interference with other nearby door bells. Wireless door bells can be powered by either electricity or by batteries.
Can I use two chimes with the same button?
Yes, but you will need a more powerful transformer. This is helpful if you have a large home and need to locate chimes in multiple places to be able to hear it. You will need to install the first chime normally then wire the second to the first in “front to front”, “rear to rear”, and “trans to trans”.
Can I select what sound my door chime makes?
This depends on which door bell chime you buy. Some will come with one pre-programmed sound, while newer models will let you choose from a variety of sounds or even record your own sound. Read the product description to find out what options each door chime has.
